5 Ways to turn your hobby into a home-based business opportunity
What do you imagine when someone brings up the idea of a “home-based business idea“? Maybe you picture someone dressing in a nice pin-striped suit, a nice car, and a home you would only find on MTV Cribs? I know you might think “Maybe a home-based business opportunity is not for me. I never went to college for business.”. You wake up, brew some deliciously smelling coffee that fills up your house with the aroma that opens your eyes, then you get ready for your 40+ hour a week job. What you are doing is what society has programmed you to do. Help build the dreams of someone who owns that company you where you work for a living. I’m here to tell you that YOU have the ability to create your own dreams and execute a plan that will make them come true!
“THERE will always be someone who says you can’t do it, you won’t be successful, it won’t work when you start something new.”
FIRST STEP to turn your hobby into a home-based business:
Write down your goals.
Write down your goals and hang them where you will see them everyday. This will be a constant reminder of what you want out of life. This will give you the motivation not to quit, not to listen to the doubters, but to keep on being passionate about making the right change.
STEP TWO figure out your passions and/or hobby.
Figure out what you are passionate about and write that down. This will guide you when you research ways to turn your passion into a profitable home-based business. I am passionate about money, traveling, business, and tasting new types of food around the world. I started a home-based vacation club and I’ve been loving everyday of “work”. You will need to figure out how you want to make a profit, who will you market it to, the supply and demand for what you will provide, and what will make you stand out from your competition. Either by providing goods and/or a service to your customers. This can be done by seeing how you and your friends and family are already using these goods or services that you are passionate about. You can also check out Small Business Association’s Starting a business checklist.
STEP THREE do your homework.
See what other businesses that are similar to your idea are already doing. You may already know how to do marketing, graphic design, create social media content, and sales. Just in case you don’t you can use websites like Fiverr.com that have professionals that will do this work for you at a decent price. There are websites you can use for graphic content like Depositphotos.com . Once you have figured out what goods or services you want to provide to customers, you can check out your competition to get an idea of what to charge your customers. Since you are just starting out, it may be a good idea to charge a little less than a well established business.
STEP FOUR start from scratch or join an already establish company that will get you rolling faster.
Starting from scratch would include filing with your state all the legal paperwork to register your business name and business in order to legally operate. Legalzoom.com is one company that does a great job helping you do all this and keep you running after you are operational.
The benefits of joining an already establish company that allows you to be a representative or a franchisee is that it cuts out a lot of the hard work and paperwork you need to put together in order to be a legal company. It also allows you to operate under an already establish brand so you don’t have to build awareness for your business, you don’t have to file all the legal paperwork with your state, and you can be operational in a shorter amount of time. Some examples of these types of groups are network marketing companies, franchises, Multi-Level Marketing companies, etc. There are pros and cons to each group, but not all of them are bad and will provide you the opportunity to turn your passion into a business.
STEP FIVE build awareness through social media. Continue education.
Finally, you will need to build awareness or “hype” for your newly formed business. One way to do this is to use what has already helped many small businesses before you. Social media. Social media is a powerful network of bringing people together and connecting them to the things they need. Market your business in a way that other businesses aren’t. Make yourself stand out. Don’t get too crazy on your marketing because sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to communicate your message in a clear and concise manner. Work on your brand and what makes you, you. Continue your education on new trends in the business market your business is in. We always have something new to learn that will help us become successful. Surround yourself with the people who already own a business because if you emulate the type of person you want to be, it will be easier for you to pick up on good habits.
I hope this blog will help you along your path of starting your own home-based business venture. I hope this provides you with enough home-based business ideas and get you rolling. Remember that even though you may not know what to do or how to do it right now, if someone has done it in the past, so can you.
